Purchasing Manager
Location: Turlock, CA
Comp: $100k

Seeking a strategic and experienced Purchasing Manager. This role is critical in leading procurement strategies, particularly in Retail Packaging Development, to further expand our new product line.

Essential Functions
  • Ensures cost-effective sourcing, vendor management, and optimal inventory levels while collaborating with sales, inventory, and warehouse teams to maintain seamless supply chain operations.
  • Lead the purchasing team with integrity, setting a strong example of ethical decision-making.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment, encouraging teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement annual department goals, including staff training, budget targets, and resource management.
  • Mentor and coach staff through ongoing evaluations, setting objectives for professional growth and job satisfaction.
  • Provide training on company systems, processes, procedures, and critical control points.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to implement best practices for shared resources and strategic management goals.
  • Ensure compliance with Food Safety, Quality, and People Safety policies, and oversee relevant training in coordination with Compliance and Quality Assurance teams.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery conditions with vendors to secure cost-effective procurement.
  • Monitor market trends, price fluctuations, and competitor activities to make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Track and manage department spending, identifying cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards.
  • Ensure procured goods meet quality specifications and maintain adequate inventory levels.
  • Address and resolve material shortages, damaged goods, and supplier issues to maintain efficiency.
  • Oversee the Supplier Approval Program and conduct supplier audits as needed.
  • Work with the accounting department to resolve discrepancies and financial disputes with vendors.
  • Prepare and validate inventory through cycle counts and month-end inventory reports.
  • Manage the destruction of obsolete packaging in compliance with food safety standards.
  • Oversee warehouse sanitation, monthly GMP audits, and adherence to food safety protocols.
  • Ensure accurate inventory assignment for all retail shipments, including customer-required labeling.

Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of purchasing experience, with knowledge of best practices in procurement and supply chain management.
  • Leadership Experience
  • Experience in packaging and brand development preferred
  • Familiarity with warehouse inventory receiving and cycle counting processes.
  • Strong skills in contract negotiation, communication, leadership, and financial analysis.
  • Proficiency in PC-based applications for research, spreadsheet analysis, and presentations.
  • Ability to apply cross-functional business principles to achieve strategic objectives.
