Medical Collections Specialist

Comp: $18-27/hr
Local hospital is seeking a long term temporary - with possible temp to hire MEDICAL COLLECTIONS SPECIALIST. Working in this welcoming, small team - you'd be contacting insurance companies, and working with Physician offices and patients to resubmit appeals for medical claims.
Job Duties:
- Review Aging Report monthly for all designated accounts to assess outstanding balances.
- Conduct follow-up activities monthly on all designated accounts to expedite payment and resolve outstanding balances.
- Resolve denials efficiently and effectively.
- Maintain up-to-date follow-up on accounts and diligently work towards resolution, adhering to Collections Guidelines.
- Document detailed actions taken on all accounts for comprehensive tracking and reporting purposes.
- Prioritize accounts for follow-up based on Collections Guidelines, ensuring timely resolution.
- Review and resolve all correspondence related to accounts receivable.
- Handle incoming phone calls from patients and insurance companies regarding billing inquiries.
- Contact patients to facilitate communication with their insurance company when necessary information is requested.
- Review denials, prepare and submit appeals as required.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all insurance contracts to facilitate accurate billing and collections.
- Prepare Billing Packets for various services, including Inpatient, Outpatient, Observation, Physical Therapy, Radiology, Laboratory, and Physician Assistant, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Match vendor invoices with bill packets and verify charged amounts for accuracy.
- Add modifiers in Thrive UX system as necessary for accurate billing.
- Bridge all electronic claims to billing software for streamlined processing.
- Correct claim rejections within billing software.
- Print and match paper claims for submission.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1+ years of experience in medical billing and collections preferred.
- Proficiency in medical billing software, particularly Waystar, is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of insurance contracts, billing guidelines, and medical terminology.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
